Local Craftsman Competes on History Channel’s “Forged in Fire”

Category: Parent Points

Craftsman Lyle Wynn of Brandon was one of four world-class bladesmiths that competed for top honors on the October 25th episode of “Forgive in Fire” on the History Channel. Selected for the show for their high level of forging skills, Wynn and his three competitors were challenged to use traditional and state-of-the-art tools to turn raw metal into authentic, fully functional implements of war. The weapons were assessed and tested by a panel of experts to determine the winner of the $10,000 prize. As of press time, the winner is unknown.

Wynn has spent 18 years honing his craft as a blacksmith, the first of ten years focused on making knives. His knowledge and skill keep him in demand as a demonstrator and teacher for events all over the country. When not on the road, he regularly teaches a steady stream of students that come to his Brandon blacksmith shop to learn from him in week-long, one-on-one sessions. Students have come from all over the U.S., as well as Brazil and Australia. He also teaches at the Mississippi Craft Center, and serves as vice president of the Craftsmen’s Guild of Mississippi.
