May/June 2017 Issue

Letter From The Editor: May 2017

Parents:

May and June are big months, as the 2016-2017 school year is wrapping up and our yearly transition to summer is happening. We hope this transition is a smooth one for your family!

Some parents may be considering right now whether a child is old enough to be left home alone once school’s out for summer. Contributor Judy Holmes will help with this difficult decision with her article on all the points to consider before making this big jump in a child’s level of responsibility.

Whether kids are home alone or not, one thing’s for sure: most will be spending great amounts of time (unfortunately) glued to electronic devices such as tablets and smartphones. Sometimes, we parents will forget to provide guidance in proper ways to use these devices. This month, writer Tracy Destazio’s article on “Netiquette” will hopefully guide you in teaching your child proper manners and safety online.

And let’s not forget to pay special honor to the important people in our lives on Mother’s Day (May 14) and Father’s Day (June 18).
