Letter From The Editor: September 2017

Parents:

Now that summer is wrapping up and the back-to-school transition is underway, many parents will be seeking ways to keep children busy after the school day ends. We hope you like some of our ideas for engaging kids in fun activities. One idea is columnist Melissa Carrigee’s suggestion of encouraging kids to go back to basics and play board games or master timeless things such as playing chess. Lynne Barze’s idea is bringing them to family karaoke nights.

Many parents select after school programs that engage kids in an organized manner. There’s plenty of ways to encourage kids to branch out and seek new skills and adventures outside the classroom.

Parents with kids in “transition” between schools -- or, starting kindergarten -- might want to check out this month’s article on back-to-school anxiety, by contributor Tracy DeStazio. She gives tips for minimizing anxieties and transitioning smoothly into the new year.

From everyone at Parents & Kids, we wish you the very best throughout this school year!
