FORREST GENERAL HOSPITAL

  • Adult Diabetes Support Group. 12:00 pm-1:00 pm. LiveWell Center; 5909 U.S. Highway 49; Hattiesburg. The Adult Diabetes Support Group is designed to complement Forrest General's Diabetes Self-Management Education program by offering ongoing diabetes support at no cost. This group is open to any adult who has diabetes. Meetings are facilitated by a Certified Diabetes Educator/Registered Nurse who specializes in Diabetes Self-Management Education. Meetings are held on the last Wednesday of each month from 12 -1 p.m. at The Diabetes Care Center at LiveWell. For more information. call 601-288-1780. The LiveWell Center is a service of Forrest General.
  • AICD Support Group Meeting. 11:30 am-1:00 pm. Forrest General's Maple Room Near Forrester's Dining Area in the Hospital. This support group is designed for those with Automatic Internal Cardiac Defibrillators and their families. This group is presented by Forrest General Hospital, Medtronix and St. Jude.   • Bereavement Support Group. 6:00 pm. Forrest General's Home Care and Hospice. The Support Group is for individuals who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The meetings occur on the first Tuesday of every month and are free to the public. For more information, call 601-288-2500.
  • Better Breathers Support Group. 12:00 pm-1:00 pm. LiveWell Center. The Better Breathers Support Group gives patients, families and friends an opportunity to gather and share information about Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), as well as other breathing disorders. COPD includes conditions such as emphysema, asthma and chronic bronchitis. The group also has access to informational resources and speakers who are knowledgeable about the special needs of people with breathing disorders. The meetings occur on the third Wednesday of every month at 12:00 noon, and are free to the public. For more information, call 601-288-1951. The LiveWell Center is a service of Forrest General.
  • CanSurmount Support Group. 7:00 pm. Forrest General's Elm Room Near Forrester's Dining Area in the Hospital. The CanSurmount Support Group helps cancer patients and their families cope with the overwhelming burden the disease places on them. In addition to emotional support, CanSurmount provides informational resources designed to help patients better understand the nature of the disease and treatment methods. The meetings occur on the first Tuesday of every month and are free to the public. For more information, call 1-800-227-2345.
  • Man to Man Prostate Support Group. 7:00 pm. Forrest General's Elm Room Near Forrester's Dining Area in the Hospital. The Prostate Cancer Support Group offers support for those men and their families who have experienced prostate cancer. Meetings of this group occur on the third Tuesday of each month.   • Parkinson's Support Group. 1:00 pm-2:00 pm. LiveWell Center. Support Group for those with Parkinson's and their caregivers. Meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 1:00 at Forrest General's LiveWell Center. Contact Verna Smith at 601-582-5350.
  • Breast Cancer Support Group. 6:00 pm. Forrest General's Elm Room Near Forrester's Dining Area in the Hospital. The Breast Cancer Support Group, sponsored by Forrest General Hospital and the American Cancer Society, offers support for women who have experienced breast cancer. Both the newly diagnosed and those who have lived with breast cancer for years may benefit from the hope generated from shared thoughts, feelings and experiences.   • Grief Support Group. 12:00 pm-1:00 pm. Forrest General's Home Care and Hospice. This group is designed to help support those who have lost a spouse. This group meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month. For more information on this group, contact Mitzi Spears at 601-310-8357.

PINE BELT FARMER'S AND ARTISAN'S MARKET

  • Pine Belt Farmer's and Artisan's Market. Every Thursday year round 4:00 pm-7:00 pm rain or shine. Giving small farmers a chance to sell their produce and provide the city with a sense of community. The Pine Belt Farmers & Artisans Market is an attempt to further integrate the city of Hattiesburg with the food-producing community of which it is a part. Town Square Park at Buschman St. and Main St.

WILLIAM CAREY UNIVERSITY

  • Sarah Gillespie Collection. The Sarah Gillespie Collection is considered to be the most comprehensive and extensive collection of art executed by Mississippians during the twentieth century. Numbering nearly 500 works and including work by artists from every section of the state, employing various media and exploring wide ranging subject matter, the collection is a true artistic, social and historical treasure which represents the work, determination and enthusiasm of Miss Gillespie. The museum is open Monday-Friday 1:00 pm-4:00 pm, except during university holidays.
  • Clarence Dickinson Special Collection. Housed in Smith-Rouse Library on the Hattiesburg campus of William Carey University. This collection contains the papers, music manuscripts, furniture, art works and personal belongings of Clarence Dickinson and his wife, Dr. Helen Adell Dickinson. Tours of the collection are available upon request.
